Ollie Gordon injury update: Dolphins RB's status revealed after leaving Monday Night Football vs. Steelers
Miami Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon suffered an injury on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his status has been revealed. During the first half of the Monday Night Football game, the Dolphins announced Gordon suffered an ankle injury and is questionable to return.
Ollie Gordon had two carries for zero yards before leaving the game on Monday night. Entering the Monday Night Football game, Gordon had 191 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 13 games.
The Dolphins selected Gordon in the sixth round of this year’s draft. He entered the NFL after playing college football at Oklahoma State. In 2023, Gordon won the Doak Walker award after rushing for 1,732 yards and 21 touchdowns in 14 games.
One reason Gordon was selected in the sixth round was that his production took a big dip in 2024. In 12 games, the 21-year-old rushed for 880 yards and 13 touchdowns on 190 carries.

Mike McDaniel talks about Ollie Gordon’s development
In August, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel talked about Gordon making the transition from college to the NFL. “I think you can tell that he’s doing a very intentional job at bridging the gap from the college position of running back to NFL running back,” McDaniel said, per Bobby Kownack of NFL.com. “There’s a lot more responsibilities, both protection and routes, specifically with what we like to do here. And it takes an adjustment that you can tell if it’s too big for a guy or not, and it’s definitely not too big for him.
“However, the biggest thing with rookies — and you hear it every year about rookie walls at some point in time — it’s a journey that has to be relentless. So that’s the next stage for him in terms of the next couple of weeks before we play a game. You can’t take your foot off the gas, or you’re quickly humbled.”
Gordon and the rest of the Dolphins are looking to finish the season strong so they can clinch a playoff spot. They entered Monday’s game with a 6-7 record and were two and a half games behind the Houston Texans for the final spot in the AFC side of the playoffs.
