Noah Sewell injury update: Bears announce official diagnosis for LB

Chicago Bears (2-2) linebacker Noah Sewell is out for the remainder of Monday’s Week 6 road contest against the Washington Commanders (3-2). Sewell, who left the game in the second quarter, was diagnosed with a concussion.

Sewell was on the receiving end of friendly fire from Bears defensive tackle Jonathan Ford. Sewell was one of multiple Bears defenders attempting to wrap up Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt when Ford flew into the pile to help. Ford got more of Sewell, his arm driving directly into Sewell’s helmet.

Sewell, a 2023 fifth-round pick, has put in the work to secure a starting spot this season. The former Oregon standout came into the game second on the team with 30 tackles. He made two tackles before leaving the game.

“He’s put himself and his body in a position where he has the ability to compete for a position,” Bears linebackers coach Richard Smith said last month, via FOX 32. “He came in here and he’s not only learned one position, he’s learned multiple positions, but he’s done a great job with it. Then you watch him play on the field. You love him.”

Sewell will be required to clear concussion protocol before returning to game action. The Bears host the New Orleans Saints (1-5) in six days.
