Luka Doncic met up with Spike Lee and signed a jersey for him after the New York Knicks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. A video showed the two meeting at the end of the game and Doncic signing a jersey before giving it to Lee. The two then embraced before leaving Madison Square Garden.

Spike Lee is a die-hard Knicks fan, but he could not pass up the opportunity to meet up with Luka Doncic. In Sunday’s game, Doncic recorded 30 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists. He entered the contest averaging 33.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in 39 games.

Doncic joined the Lakers last February in a controversial trade with the Dallas Mavericks. The 26-year-old played for Dallas since the 2018-2019 season, and the team traded him to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. Mavericks players Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris were also involved in the trade.

In August, Doncic and the Lakers agreed to a three-year, $165 million contract extension. “I’m really grateful to the Lakers organization, my teammates, and the fans for welcoming me and my family with so much support and kindness since day one,” Doncic said in a statement, per ESPN. “This is an amazing organization, and I truly believe in what we’re building together. I’m going to keep working as hard as I can to bring another championship to Los Angeles and to make Laker Nation proud. This is just the beginning. I’m excited for what’s ahead and to keep building something special with this team.”

Lee is very passionate about the Knicks and has been for years. In May, Lee spoke to Rachel Handler of Vulture about having superstitions when going to games. “I’ll tell you this. I don’t wear Kelly green,” Lee said while laughing. The only green I have is probably a Jets jersey signed. Other than that, I have no green. Hell no!”

Spike Lee is known for directing films such as Do the Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Malcom X, He Got Game, and most recently Highest 2 Lowest. He won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film BlacKkKlansman in 2019 and received an Honorary Academy Award in 2015.
