Kris Boyd shooting: New details emerge surrounding hospitalized Jets CB

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd remained hospitalized Monday with a bullet lodged in his lung, according to a report from ABC News. Boyd is listed in critical but stable condition after being shot early Sunday morning in the Midtown area of New York City.

The shooting took place around 2 a.m. ET, New York City Police told the New York Post. Police did not identify Boyd as the victim to the Post. WABC-7 reported officers found Boyd with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, and he was immediately transported to Bellevue Hospital. The Jets released a statement about Boyd shortly after noon ET Sunday.

“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the statement read.

Police are still working to identify the suspect who shot Boyd, who told NYPD detectives that him and his friends got into a scuffle outside a restaurant Saturday night. That confrontation led to the shooting, per ABC News. Boyd was shot in the abdomen, the outlet noted. Police on Monday released multiple images of a person of interest in the shooting.

Kris Boyd remains in hospital after shooting

Boyd, 29, is seven-year NFL pro who is currently on injured reserve with the Jets. He was a 2019 seventh-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings out of Texas, where he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior in 2018. Boyd previously played for the Arizona Cardinals (2023) and the Houston Texans (2023-24).

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Boyd was placed on injured reserve in mid-August after sustaining a shoulder injury in practice earlier that month and has not logged a snap with the Jets this season. Boyd has 105 total tackles (72 solo) in 81 career games across his seven NFL seasons, the first four coming with the Vikings, where he a built a reputation as a special teams playmaker.

Boyd appeared in all 17 games for the Texans last season, logging 365 snaps on special teams. Prior to that, Boyd totaled 95 tackles in four seasons with Minnesota and led the Vikings in special teams snaps with 302 as a rookie in 2019 and 403 in 2022.
