Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes the Micah Parsons trade will pay big dividends down the road. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Jones explained why trading Parsons will help Dallas be a better team.

“The very best of what we were trying to get involving the Micah Parsons trade is all out there ahead of us,” Jerry Jones said. “We’ve got some of it on the field already. We’re going to get more of it on the field in the draft. The very best of that trade is out there, not the least of which Stephen [Jones] will address and can address it better than me.

“No way in the world could we have ever entertained having a player like a [George] Pickens for the future if we had signed and still had the Parsons trade and hadn’t made the trade. We would not have had any flexibility. It was zero chance of having that money available for that, and for that matter, when we look at what we’ve done with Quinnen [Williams]. It’s been impossible to have Quinnen.”

The Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in late August. In exchange for Parsons, Dallas received the Packers’ first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, and they also received defensive lineman Kenny Clark.

Later in the season, the Cowboys used one of their 2027 first-round picks to acquire defensive lineman Quinnen Williams from the New York Jets. Heading into this year’s draft, the Cowboys have the No. 12 and No. 25 overall picks.

Without Parsons, the Cowboys struggled on defense, allowing 511 points this past season. It led to them finishing the season with a 7-9-1 record and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The struggles on defense also led to the Cowboys firing defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

In Parsons’ first season with the Packers, he recorded 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 14 games. In the Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos, Parsons suffered a torn ACL, and his season ended early.
