Jayden Reed injury update: Packers WR leaves game, goes straight to locker room vs. Commanders

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed went into the locker room after suffering what appeared to be a shoulder injury in Thursday’s Week 2 home contest against the Washington Commanders. The injury occurred on the Packers’ first drive of the game.

Quarterback Jordan Love connected with Reed for a 39-yard score, which was called back due to a holding penalty on rookie right tackle Anthony Belton, getting the start in place of the injured Zach Tom. Reed immediately showed to be in some discomfort.

Prime Video sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung said that Reed was “grimacing in pain” as he walked off the field. Reed could only take a couple of steps before needing to take a pause.

“Jayden Reed came down hard on that right shoulder. He immediately grabbed that collarbone area afterwards,” Hartung said. “He was able to jog across the field, but then he hit the ground in pain once he got to the Packers sideline.

“He walked off the field; you see him with the towel over his head. He could only take a couple of steps before taking a pause. He was grimacing in pain and couldn’t get comfortable. He’s heading back to the locker room and probably the X-ray room.”

Packers down Jayden Reed against Commanders

Reed, the third-year wideout, was Green Bay’s leading receiver last season. He led the Packers with three receptions, to go along with 45 yards and a score, in the Packers’ 27-13 Week 1 win over the Detroit Lions this past Sunday.

We’ll see if Reed returns but for now, Green Bay will have to win without him. Romeo Doubs stepped up on the next drive without Reed, hauling in a five-yard touchdown.

The Packers have a 7-0 lead late in the fourth quarter. Washington’s offense has gone three-and-out on both of its possessions to open the game.
