Dave Portnoy blasts Bill Polian, Hall of Fame for Bill Belichick snub
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy put the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Bill Polian on blast amid Bill Belichick not getting in on the first ballot. The former New England Patriots coach did not receive the 80% necessary.
Polian, a Hall of Famer himself after being a highly successful GM of the Colts, reportedly expressed desire to see Belichick serve a “one-year penance” for Spygate. He denied the report but then said he was only “95% sure” he voted for Belichick.
“It’s absurd,” Portnoy said on Wake Up Barstool. “This is what happens when you create a society of losers, of people who basically refuse to acknowledge greatness, who complain, make excuses, bitch and moan. Bill Polian is certainly a leader amongst those. He’s a liar and a coward. He’s somebody who could never beat the Patriots, they changed the rules of football because of Bill Polian. They couldn’t beat the Patriots. They whine, they complain, much like after the Patriots beat the Broncos in bad weather.
“You hear people that want to get rid of bad weather. Here’s the problem in this country, it’s not just the Patriots. When you have great teams who win almost universally, you look and they feel ‘oh they cheated, they did this, they did that.’ I’ve seen it firsthand more than anybody. I’ve seen it with the New England Patriots. I’ve seen it with Michigan. The Houston Astros, I never complained You have people who won’t look themselves in the mirror and say, ‘I can’t beat that guy. I have to get better. I have to be the best I can be. Hats off to that team.’ The New England Patriots, who kicked our butts for two decades. It wasn’t spygate, it wasn’t Deflategate, it’s none of that. You got to look in the mirror.”

Dave Portnoy rips Bill Polian amid Bill Belichick Hall of Fame snub
On the whole, during his legendary coaching career, Belichick had a 302-165 overall record to go with a 31-13 mark in the postseason. His 302 regular-season wins put him third all-time behind George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328) on the all-time winningest coaches list. Counting the postseason, Belichick sits just behind Shula’s 347 total victories on the all-time list. Not to mention, he had six Super Bowl titles as a head coach of New England and two additional championships as the DC of the New York Giants.
“And all these people across the country will make excuses and complain, and they can’t admit that there’s a superior team, players, athletes, who do things better. This is years of people building up and yes, Bill Polian is the face of it,” Portnoy said. “He’s a liar. He’s a coward. How does Bill Polian go from 100% saying, ‘I voted for Belichick,’ and then he does an interview 10 minutes later, he’s like, ‘Well, I think 95%.’
“They should take his jacket, burn it. He should be kicked out of the Hall of Fame. He’s an embarrassment … Sit back and be like these teams are great. Give them their flowers in real time. There’s too many fans, too many executives, too many people, not just with the Patriots across the world, who make excuses and refuse to kneel down when they’ve been conquered. Bill Polian is a leader in that, and this is what happens.”
