CJ Stroud injury update: Adam Schefter gives latest on Texans QB chances for TNF vs. Bills
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared the latest injury update on Houston Texans Quarterback CJ Stroud ahead of the Week 11 game against the Buffalo Bills. While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter said Stroud will likely be inactive for the Thursday Night Football matchup.
“We’re still waiting for CJ Stroud to clear, and I think there’s a real question as to whether he would go on Thursday night against Buffalo,” Adam Schefter said. “I think there’s a real possibility that CJ Stroud will miss his third straight game, and it will be Davis Mills again on Thursday night.”
On Monday, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans shared an update on Stroud. “With C.J. and Jalen (Pitre) — when they are in concussion protocol, there are steps they have to pass to be available,” Ryans said, per Texans Wire.
Because of the Texans playing on a short week, Schefter is likely right about Stroud missing his third straight game. But the team has to be feeling good about backup QB Davis Mills, who has helped the Texans win the last two games. In Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, Mills threw for 274 yards and a touchdown.

How has CJ Stroud looked so far this year?
“I’m just proud of the way we’re finishing,” Ryans said after the game, per the Associated Press. “We weren’t finishing games really good to start the season, but how we’re finishing games now and finishing with a win, that’s all that matters. I’m proud of our guys for that.”
Stroud suffered the concussion during the second quarter of the Texans’ 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos earlier this month. Through eight games this year, the former Ohio State star has completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions with a 3-5 record.
The Texans selected Stroud in the first round (No. 2 overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft. He made a huge impact during his rookie season, completing 63.9 percent of his passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Stroud was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and led Houston to the divisional round of the playoffs. Last year, Stroud threw for 3,727 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while leading the Texans to another playoff appearance.
