Chris Godwin injury update: Todd Bowles reveals extent of Buccaneers WR injury after Ravens game

The early indication is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-3) receiver Chris Godwin suffered a dislocated left ankle in Monday’s 41-31 Week 7 home defeat to the Baltimore Ravens (5-2), head coach Todd Bowles said after the game.

Godwin, 28, was carted off the field with 43 seconds remaining on Tampa Bay’s final offensive drive of the game after suffering a leg injury too gruesome for the ESPN broadcast to show. Godwin will surely undergo further testing to determine the official severity of the injury. If the early indication of a dislocated ankle stands to be true, the Buccaneers will be without their leading receiver for the remainder of the season.

The injury occurred at a time where the Buccaneers were down by 10 in the waning seconds of the game. He came down with a completion on third-and-17 and was tackled by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith. Godwin’s ankle rolled up underneath him as Smith brought him to the ground. He has an air cast on his left leg.

Bucs lose Chris Godwin, Mike Evans to injury in MNF loss to Ravens

Godwin came into the game having hauled in 43 receptions for 511 yards and five touchdowns. He reeled in seven catches for 65 yards against Baltimore. Godwin had been one of the most productive receivers in football this season. He looked primed for a big payday in the offseason.

Godwin, who has spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the Buccaneers, is scheduled to be unrestricted free agent after the season. The 2019 Pro Bowler previously tore his ACL in December 2021 in a game against the New Orleans Saints (2-5).

Tampa Bay suddenly has some questions on offense, as fellow wideout Mike Evans exited the game in the second quarter after reaggravating his hamstring injury.

“There’s no way around it,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said. “We’re gonna have to look this thing in the face and take it head on.”
