Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, who suffered a devastated season-ending ankle injury in Denver’s 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round, has broken his silence.

Nix suffered the injury on a -2 yard rush with 6:04 remaining in overtime. He remained in the game and drew a crucial pass interference call on a throw to Marvin Mims, which put Denver in field goal range for the win. He underwent surgery on Tuesday for the broken bone in his ankle.

“The last few days have been hard to put into words,” Nix wrote on Instagram. “What started as one of the most exciting games I’ve ever been a part of ended with some of the most devastating football news I’ve ever received. This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it.

“I can’t express how much this team and organization mean to me and how much I believe in them. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys. I couldn’t be more confident in Jarrett (Stidham). And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next. Thank you for all the kind words, love and support over the last few days. Thankful for my trainers, Beau, Vince and Dr. Waldrop for taking great care of me.

“God never says oops, and he is always good. He has big plans for this team. We’re not finished, as a matter of fact we’re just getting started. We’re just going to keep climbing higher. Go Broncos.”

Jarrett Stidham will start in AFC Championship in place of Bo Nix

As Nix touched on, backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will start in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. Stidham appeared in just one game this season for a kneel down in Denver’s 44-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 26.

“He’s ready. He’s ready,” head coach Sean Payton said about Stidham following Nix’s diagnosis. “I said this at the beginning of the season, but I feel like I’ve got two that’s capable of starting for a number of teams. And, I know he feels the same way. So, watch out. Just watch.”

In the win over Buffalo, Nix completed 26/46 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also led the Broncos in rushing with 29 yards on 12 carries. With the win, he joined Tim Tebow as the only other Denver-drafted quarterback to lead the franchise to a Playoff victory.

Nix’s absence could be devastating for an organization seeking a return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2015. With a defense that dominant, however, anything certainly is possible.
