Syracuse fires multiple staff members under Fran Brown
Syracuse is firing special teams coordinator Ricky Brumfield, offensive line coach Dale Williams, defensive backs coach Joe Schaefer and co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Robert Wright, per On3’s Pete Nakos. It’s a major staff overhaul under Fran Brown.
The second season under Brown’s watch did not go as planned. The Orange finished 3-9 overall and 1-7 in ACC play.
That included eight straight losses to end the season, including a 70-7 blowout at the hands of Notre Dame just two weeks ago. Brown led Syracuse to a 10-3 record and Holiday Bowl victory during his first year as head coach.
“There’s some decisions that I’ll have to make coming up for the football team for Syracuse and I’m going to make the right decisions,” Brown said, via Syracuse.com. It turns out, staff changes were the first things on his mind following the end of the season.

“We’re just going to keep receipts and work extremely hard,” Brown said. Brown is now 13-12 in two seasons with Syracuse.
Freshman-standouts Antoine Deslauriers and Demetres Samuel mentioned they had faith in Brown to get things right. Perhaps the 2026 campaign will be different for Syracuse.
“I’m trying to build something here,” Deslauriers said. “I can strongly say that Syracuse is where I’ll play next year.”
