Notre Dame transfer DB Taebron Bennie-Powell signs with Boise State

Notre Dame transfer safety Taebron Bennie-Powell has signed with Boise State for the 2026 season, On3 has learned. He played the past two seasons with the Fighting Irish but only appeared in one game during that span.

Bennie-Powell ends his career with the Fighting Irish with only one tackle. He’ll hope to carve out a bigger role for himself with the Broncos next season.

Taebron Bennie-Powell played high school football at Lakota West in West Chester, Ohio, where he was a three-star prospect in the 2024 class. He ranked as the No. 449 overall played and No. 39 player in the cycle according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.

As a transfer, Bennie-Powell ranks as the No. 1,154 player and No. 112 safety to enter the portal so far this offseason according to On3. He is one of 15 Notre Dame players who have transferred so far this cycle.

Notre Dame is coming off of a 10-2 finish this past season and was the first team out of the 12-team College Football Playoff field. The Fighting Irish opted not to play a bowl game, meaning they had no postseason one year after finishing runner up in the national championship.

As Notre Dame looks to rebuild its roster to compete for a playoff spot next year, Bennie-Powell will look to reinvent himself with Boise State. Perhaps it will be a move that benefits both parties in reaching their ultimate goals.

More on the transfer portal in 2026

The 15-day transfer portal this winter will be the only window, opening Jan. 2 and closing on Jan. 16. The NCAA opted to eliminate the spring transfer portal window for football, meaning this will be the only opportunity for student athletes to enter their names.

The move to a one-time-only portal is supposed to allow schools to finish their season with their entire team before the transfer portal opens. As has been the previous standard, athletes on College Football Playoff teams still playing would have 5 days beginning the day after their team’s final game to enter the transfer portal.

This season’s CFP semifinals took place Jan. 8 and 9. The CFP national championship game between Miami and Indiana is scheduled for Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
