Michigan State trailed for the entire game as the No. 10 Spartans fell to unranked Minnesota 76-73 on Wednesday night despite a late rally. It didn’t take long for the student section to pour onto the floor inside Williams Arena after the final buzzer.

The Gophers led the Spartans by as many as 16 points during the contest, however, Michigan State would cut the lead by as many as two points in the final minutes. Junior forward Jaylen Crocker-Johnson led the way for Minnesota with 22 points including four made 3-pointers to go along with seven rebounds and three assists.

Cade Tyson (17 points), Langston Reynolds (14) and Bobby Durkin (13) rounded out the double-digit scoring efforts for Minnesota. Reynolds finished with a game-high eight assists.

Michigan State was led by 31 combined points between Coen Carr (16) and Jordan Scott (15). Scott finished shooting 75% (3-4) from deep on 29 minutes on the court. Jeremy Fears Jr. logged a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists on the night.

The victory improvs Minnesota to 11-12 on the season, including a 4-8 mark against the Big Ten Conference. Meanwhile, Michigan State drops to 19-4 and now have a 9-3 mark in conference play.

The Spartans have now lost their last two matchups. Minnesota’s win snaps a seven-game losing streak.

It’s been a frustrating stretch for the Gophers, who have been losing close games throughout that run. This includes four games that were decided by two scores or less. Minnesota has also played in two overtime games over that stretch.

Notably, this isn’t the first time fans have rushed the court in Minnesota this season. The first came during non-conference action — a 73-64 win over then No. 22 Indiana on Dec. 3. Then again after a 70-67 win over then No. 19 Iowa. While Minnesota’s record still sits below .500 at this point, the Gophers are 3-3 against teams ranking in the AP Top 25.

Minnesota will stay at home for their upcoming matchup against Maryland on Sunday. After that, they take on the likes of Washington, Oregon and Rutgers, so there are several opportunities to stack wins for the Gophers moving forward.
