On an incomplete pass in the first half of Saturday’s game against Texas A&M, Matt Zollers got hit in the hand. The Missouri quarterback was “banged up” as a result, ABC’s Katie George reported on the broadcast.

Zollers got the start Saturday following Beau Pribula’s injury suffered against Vanderbilt prior to the bye. His departure meant Mizzou was down its top two quarterbacks after Sam Horn suffered a scary injury early in the year.

That opened the door for Zollers to jump in, but he was clearly dealing with the effects of the hit in Saturday’s game, George said. He did not come out of the game, though.

“When the ball came out during Mizzou’s last offensive drive, Matt Zollers’ throwing hand got hit,” George reported in the second quarter. “He was on the bench flexing that same hand in between series. It was really red, some skin was broken, there was a little bit of blood. He took some reps throwing the ball in the team box, but that right hand is a bit banged up.”

Zollers put together an impressive day against Vanderbilt as he jumped in to relieve Pribula. He completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, despite entering the matchup with just six pass attempts to start his freshman season.

Zollers arrived in CoMo this year as a four-star prospect out of Royersford (PA) Spring-Ford. He was the No. 99 overall player and No. 10-ranked quarterback from the 2025 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

As for how the offense will change with Zollers at quarterback, Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz said the staff will play to his strengths. That’s why things might look a little different than they did with Pribula.

“Yeah, it’s not really the full playbook, it’s about playing to what his strengths are, to answer your question,” Drinkwitz said. “Are there things that we’re going to add? Probably not. But are there things that he’s more comfortable with than maybe Beau was? Absolutely. So we can push those things in the playbook that maybe haven’t been shown.”
