Former Todd Golden assistant John Andrzejek leaves Campbell head coaching job for Louisville
One of Todd Golden‘s former top lieutenants is stepping down from his first college basketball head coaching gig. John Andrzejek took the head coaching gig at Campbell following Florida‘s national title a year ago, but he’s walking away over differences in opinion on the program’s financing.
Andrzejek posted a lengthy departure note on social media. Meanwhile, Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman reported that he is leaving to become the associate head coach at Louisville.
Campbell finished Andrzejek’s first season in charge 16-18. His team had an 8-10 record in the CAA this season.
“I say this with a very heavy heart, but I will be stepping down as your Head Men’s Basketball Coach,” John Andrzejek wrote. “Over the last 6 months, it has become clear that Campbell has made the decision to shift their commitment from basketball. Simply put — the institution now has different priorities, and they are not compatible with putting the kind of team on the floor that you deserve. As difficult as this is, I respect the decision and understand it as one that the University feels it must make in what are unprecedented times in higher education.”
Andrzejek, who is one branch of the quickly growing Golden coaching tree, spent two seasons at Florida. He had previously worked with Golden at Columbia, as both a student manager and a director of basketball operations.
Other stints in the coaching ranks included stops at Johns Hopkins (2017-18), Dartmouth (2018-19) and Washington State (2019-23). But Campbell was his first head coaching opportunity.
Andrzejek raved about the people he worked with at Campbell. But he lamented the financial decisions made.

“Despite months of intense work and collaboration with AD Hannah Bazemore and our terrific athletics administration, and several budget-neutral options that were proposed and thoroughly explored, there are no pathways that the institution will support to fund the program appropriately moving forward,” Andrzejek wrote.
Andrzejek spoke fondly of his time at Campbell. But now he’ll be back on the bench at Louisville, working for Pat Kelsey as he presumably eyes another head coaching opportunity down the road.
“It was an extraordinary privilege to live here and represent this program,” Andrzejek wrote. “I love this place, and I’ve worked tirelessly to reconnect with Camel alumni across generations. I have thrown my everything at this program and building the kind of team that you deserve, and the kind of team that can compete for championships. Along the way, I have made friendships that will last a lifetime. The people here are truly special! …
“I am deeply grateful to Dr. (J. Bradley) Creed, AD Hannah Bazemore, and Deputy AD Justin Wilkins for giving me this opportunity a year ago, and for their consistent support over the last 11 months. I certainly wish things had gone differently, as I know many others do.
“Campbell will always be a special place for me. From the bottom of my heart — I will always pull for this University, this program and the wonderful people of the Creek. ROLL HUMPS.”
