The second game of a three-contest series between the Florida State Seminoles and Stanford Cardinal was originally scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. PT. But the weather had different ideas, as rain began to pour in Palo Alto. Right now, the game is considered to be in a rain delay.

No official start time has been provided by either team. Updates are set to come once they are made available. For now, both Florida State and Stanford are going to play the waiting game.

“We are currently in a weather delay and won’t start at 10 pm EST,” the official Florida State softball account said via X. “We will give you updates as they become available.”

Game 1 of this series turned out to be one of the more entertaining ones of the season. The final score read 9-8 in favor of Stanford, with 10 of those runs coming in the seventh inning.

Going into the seventh, Stanford held a 5-2 lead. But Florida State was able to put up a six-spot and felt pretty good about its chances moving forward. The home side got one more opportunity at the plate, though, and took full advantage. A walk-off grand slam from Addyson Sheppard sent Stanford Softball Stadium into a frenzy.

Hopefully, when the game does get underway, something special is once again produced. After all, this is a ranked matchup inside of ACC play. More than just your average result is on the line in this one.

Florida State enjoying fantastic 2026 softball season

Yes, the loss was a tough one for Florida State to swallow last night. Considering the travel situation as well, getting out to the West Coast and starting a series like that is tough.

However, it’s been a season full of great memories in Tallahassee. The record sits at 35-5 waking up on Saturday morning. Only one of those came against an ACC opponent — the Friday night tilt.

Before then, the winning streak sat well over 20 games for the Seminoles. A mix of nonconference games and ACC weekend series is sprinkled in there. Previously, Alabama was the last team to beat Florida State, doing so on Feb. 21.

There appear to be bigger aspirations for FSU than just performing well in the regular season. A trip to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series last took place in 2023, where they made the championship series.
