The benches cleared during Friday afternoon’s Egg Bowl following a Trinidad Chambliss would-be fumble called on the field. Ole Miss and Mississippi State’s frustrations and hatred in the rivalry went to a different level.

Chambliss, prior to the pushing and shoving, appeared to fumble the football but had his arm slightly going forward. The play went under further review by the officials.

But, players had to be separated following a scrum. The ABC broadcast claimed Ole Miss TE Daequan Wright initiated the pushing and shoving, which caused some punches, as well as the benches to clear onto the field.

After review, the Chambliss fumble was ruled an incomplete pass. Personal foul penalties were giving to Ole Miss’ Deuce Alexander and Delano Townsend and Mississippi State’s Malick Sylla. Since they were offsetting penalties, they replayed the down, although Ole Miss ended up punting up 14-7 late in the second quarter. There were also no ejections, despite some apparent punches being thrown.

Egg Bowl has no shortage of drama

The Egg Bowl had no shortage of drama on or off the field Friday. Off the field, it was all about Lane Kiffin and his future at Ole Miss. He will apparently decide what’s to come by Saturday, according to a statement from the Rebels’ athletic department.

Not only that, the Egg Bowl fever reached the Ole Miss locker room early Friday morning, by way of some thieves. Chambliss’ jerseys were stolen from the locker room in the wee hours by unidentified persons.

Cameras in the locker room, set up by Ole Miss equipment manager Ken Crain, caught the act in 4K. A bad day to be put on film!

“You can hear these fans already out here,” Kiffin told ESPN‘s Marty Smith on ‘SEC This Morning‘. “This will be a great game today. It’s a very passionate rivalry. I mean, shoot, at 10 p.m. last night, luckily our great Ken Crain (our equipment manager) put secret cameras in the locker room so we could watch Mississippi State break into our locker room and steal things.

“We reported it to Mississippi State and they said ‘We’ll put security on it’. And how about this? At 3 a.m. in the morning, they break in and take Trinidad (Chambliss)‘s jersey! Guess you can expect nothing less from these people.”
