Duke vs. UConn: Gene Steratore, Grant Hill call out officials for missed Cameron Boozer charge
Duke star Cameron Boozer may have gotten away with one during the Blue Devils’ Elite Eight matchup vs. UConn. With around eight minutes to go and Duke nursing a nine-point lead, Boozer slammed into Braylon Mullins. While the officials let play continue without a whistle — eventually leading to two points for the Blue Devils — CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore and color commentator Grant Hill both believed Boozer committed an offensive foul.
UConn coach Dan Hurley was livid with the no-call. Both Hill and his broadcast partner, Bill Raftery, were definitive when play-by-play man Ian Eagle asked about the play.
“Looked like a charge to me,” Hill answered immediately. Raftery then confirmed, adding to the explanation.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Got that arm in there. Just powerful basketball. I like the move, but that seemed pretty easy.”
Steratore made it a trifecta of concurrence when he added his two cents. The former collegiate referee thought Boozer was just a tiny bit too aggressive with his move.
“Yeah feeling the same thing, Ian,” he said. “Just felt like Boozer lowered that left shoulder a little bit and kind of runs through Mullin there. I had a charge on the play.”
Although the critical missed call delayed UConn’s comeback attempt, it didn’t end it. The Boozer bucket extended the lead back up to 11, but that lead would not hold. The Huskies would storm back with a late steal and deep three-pointer to win the game and advance to the Final Four to play Illinois.

Cameron Boozer, Duke fall on last-second Braylon Mullins bucket
UConn appeared dead in the water after giving possession back to Duke with 10 seconds to go, down 73-71.
Nobody told the Huskies. They forced a turnover from freshman Cayden Boozer near midcourt, then the ball fell to Mullins about six feet behind the 3-point line.
He squared up. SWISH!
UConn took the lead 73-72, with only 0.4 seconds left on the clock. Duke could not get a final shot off at the buzzer, ending the game with an absolute stunner.
While Cameron Boozer and Duke will now head home just short of a Final Four berth. Elite Eight hero, Braylon Mullins, heads to his home state of Indiana. They’ll take on the Illinois Fightin Illini, who beat Iowa on Saturday, in the first game of the day.
UConn vs. Illinois will tip off at 6:09 p.m. ET on TBS, TNT and truTV with streaming available through the March Madness Live app and Sling TV.
