Bryan Hodgson on his recruiting abilities: 'Just look at my wife'
Bryan Hodgson is getting an opportunity at the power conference level. Providence made his hiring official on Tuesday, holding the press conference. The now-former USF coach is hoping to find similar on-court success as he did in Tampa. But before then, some of his humor came out when addressing a crowd.
Hodgson has family in attendance for the moment, bringing his wife and son along. When thanking them, Hodgson decided to make a joke about his recruiting abilities at the personal level. A big reaction came from those in attendance, as the room filled with laughter and eventually, a long round of applause.
“I want to thank my family,” Hodgson said. “My better half, my spouse here, Jordan. My son, Jett, who you will hear plenty throughout this speech. If you ever want to question my recruiting abilities, just take a look at my wife, Jordan.”
Hodgson is certainly going to need to bring his recruiting game to the Northeast, as Providence is looking for a bit of a revival. The last three years under Kim English did not go as planned. No NCAA Tournament appearances popped up after getting into the field on a consistent basis under Ed Cooley. Advancing has been an issue too, with only one Sweet Sixteen since the turn of the century.
Before officially accepting the Providence job, Hodgson guided USF into March Madness. Many thought the Bulls were a contender to pull off an upset over Louisville as an 11-seed. Instead, Pat Kelsey‘s group got the job done. Hodgson then turned down the Syracuse job before becoming a Friar. Certainly not how Hodgson wanted his time in Tampa to come to an end.

However, he seems to be quite happy in his new role. Getting the family on board is a big part of the transition, getting them involved right away due to some humor.
More on Bryan Hodgson, coaching career thus far
Hodgson comes from the Nate Oats tree, working as an assistant for him at Buffalo and Alabama. Arkansas State came calling in 2023, seeing Hodgson lead them to the CBI in Year One. Year Two was even better, getting into the NIT.
Now, all the success with USF has come in his first season. In total, Hodgson holds a 70-36 record as a head coach. All three of his campaigns have resulted in a winning record against conference opponents, having fourth place as his worst finish.
