Will Stein on the Louisville game

Sounds like the Governor's Cup is here to stay. Do you want it moved back to the first game of the year?

Yes, should've never been switched.

I know @AdamLuckett believes it belongs at the end of the year, but the rivalry had so much more juice when you spent the entire summer talking ungodly amounts of trash that could not be proven incorrect because nobody had any idea what either team would actually look like.

A reminder that the SEC requires all members to play one power conference opponent outside of league play. The game was never going away once that happened.

The attendance in November has generally sucked, whether because of bad weather or bad teams. It’s hot on Labor Day weekend, but the stands were always filled.

I'm in full disagreement with CWS on it being the first game of the year. I would be cool with the 3rd, maybe the 2nd. And it should only do that if it means Tennessee is always the last game of the year. Playing such an important rival first, the rival, feels wrong.

Game is too important to play it first game of the year simply to give the fan base vibes, IMO.

It was played on the first game of the year because Louisville was a C-USA team when this started. You played mid-majors at the beginning of the season in that era in CFB. Well, we're out of that era and Louisville is no longer a mid-major. Kentucky moved it under Brooks for a reason. Also wonder if the SEC and ACC and ESPN will be cool with moving a rivalry game off the last weekend.

The ideal schedule would be to play Popcorn State first to get the kinks worked out, then play UL, then play Butthole State to rest up and let emotions of the rivalry game subside, and then get into the conference schedule.

I'm also of the belief that this is something only Kentucky fans in Louisville want.

Everyone is missing the most important point of this post. Michael Bennett still has a radio show, and one relevant enough to get Will Stein as a guest?!?!

I like it at the end. It gives Louisville a whole season to build up some confidence in that Mickey Mouse conference before we kill it. .

“Butthole State”? Is this a Ryan Lemond burner account?

Alabama-Auburn, Arkansas-Mizzou, Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Ole Miss-State, Texas-A&M, South Carolina-Clemson, Tennessee-Vanderbilt. LSU and Oklahoma are the only teams without a guaranteed rivalry/trophy game on Thanksgiving weekend. So they play each other. There would be real scheduling hoops to jump through if UK is serious about moving the game.

Is it still just the tip? Or is it a full show now?

If the game is played early then it's always important. If it's played late then most likely it's only really important to one team. I get it always means something to the fans but playing it early just brings more juice.

I’m pro leave it at the end of the year. It’s rivalry weekend and that’s our rival. Why would we move it? Hard disagree with Will here.

A lot of talk about this offseason juice. If you win the last game, you can hold it over the other fan bases head all offseason. Both sides have done that in recent years. Louisville is literally doing that now. That is the juice. Kentucky is going to play 9 SEC games. I do not understand this infatuation with wanting to play someone big in Week 1.

Kentucky has done better with it being the last game. Keep it as it is.

i think you capitalize on rivalry hype most early in the season. Both teams have belief from their offseason and you dont have a situation of two lame duck seasons colliding for one last cruel disgrace to football. Instead, even if the seasons end up being underwhelming, you get a super hyped up early week match up in a packed house

Looking at the tv schedule for week 1, I think espn might like the P5 inventory.

It seems we're fixing something that ain't broke. It still beats May basketball talk, though.

LOL. I lived in Nashville for a long time and listened to Jared Stillman say that on sports radio a bunch. My inner 10 year old always laughed at it.

Stein (unlike other coaches of flagship programs at UK) is doing a LOT of media. Honestly if you just have a zoom call you plan on posting to YouTube, you could probably get him on lol.
