Maybe NBC is giving ND hell and threatening to lower their media payout?

If we do bring the series back, it needs to be on OUR terms. I would rather not play them, than go back to the previous scheduling model.

I think we definitely proved that point this year by telling them to go pound sand. It’ll be interesting to see when the game will be played going forward.

This makes a ton of sense, unless they replace us with fucla. They need a showcase game in SoCal on a regular basis to draw SoCal recruits. Heading out to the farm in Palo Alto every other year isn't going to cut it recruiting-wise.

, right now USC does NOT need ND for strength of schedule. It will only make things worse. It is a new world out there and have to adapt or be out of playoff picture

Exactly they need us a lot more than we need them. The country wants to see ND-USC game every year...ND thought they had more "cards" than they actually had. USC will be nobody's bitch.

This is in USC's best interest once the playoffs expand to 24 teams. Because guess what, there are going to be a bunch of 9-3 and 8-4 teams. The Trojans SOS matched up against the SEC's 9-3/8-4 teams isn't going to look great with an OOC slate of SJSU, FSU, and Louisiana...especially with the SEC moving to the 9-conference game slate with a mandated +1 against a power 4 team OOC.

Dont know why ND refused a Week 0 matchup with us. Great way to jump start The CFB season and maintain the rivalry. Could see that gaining traction as an annual occurrence to mark the start of the season

Nope. You’re just grasping at straws. You actually believe that the sec teams will be scheduling top tier OOC teams every year? Ha, what a fantasy. which sec team has the strength o schedule we do this year? I’ll sit hear and wait quietly.

Maybe you should start thinking outside the box and with less tribalism.

Because it seems like they start slow every season. They've lost a lot of early season games. Didn't want to add another potential loss

To me this only proves we made the right move offering the early game. We aren’t going back to the old scheduling model. We’ll play them early in the year when the playoff expands. Our admin is operating at a really high level right now. I imagine there was pressure from donors and influential people to keep the old model no matter what. The admin was able to see past that and position us for future success while maintaining the ND game long term and on our terms. Elite moves. as others have said, I think the most fun version is the season opener every year when no other teams are playing.

Okay, great. Now answer the questions.. which team has our strength of schedule? and explain without using sec propaganda, how many will fill their schedules with top flite OOC games regularly?

I'll be happy if it renews, but happier if we tell them to pound sand and get Stanford or Cal back. I have to travel for home games and if we get an annual game up in Northern California for that I get to sleep in my own bed, I'll be a happy man.

Marc you are wrong here. As much as I would love to see ND back on the schedule, our strength of schedule will be strong enough, even with the OOC teams you listed. Moving foward, I see USC scheduling one or more of the power 4 teams such as Cal or Stanford or Arizona, making a neccesary game against ND mute.

It’s only for the entertainment value.. no more and no less, especially if we open the season.

sec is full of it..
  • Kirby Smart floated the "SEC grind" as the reason the Big Ten has won three straight national titles, but the theory has some pretty obvious holes in it, Ari Wasserman argues.
  • Smart's own conference sent 87 players to the NFL Draft compared to 68 from a Big Ten that has two more teams, yet the SEC hasn't won a title in three years.
  • Smart actually stumbled onto the real answer himself: NIL has spread talent across the country, and the stockpiling era that made Georgia and Alabama untouchable is simply over. https://www.on3.com/news/the-sec-grind-is-the-southern-cliche-really-what-helped-the-big-ten-win-three-titles-in-a-row/

First rule of negotiation; be willing to walk away. Maybe they can sell the TV rights for a boatload to Amazon.

We’d no doubt get a good game back, along with tradition….but ND benefits more from a resumption of the game. Their schedule sucks and their recruiting appears to be taking SoCal hits, while our recruiting has been elite. Playing BYU gets them nothing, LOL…. If admins are still talking then I would guess we’d very likely take this game back however….with those whining schmucks. Terms better be favorable for us. .

It could be as watched as the Army Navy game....be an annual tradition to watch USC-ND in week 0. It's perfect. It also gives both teams opportunity to recover from a loss.
