Could any member of the IC staff address whether or not there is growing concern that Able stays in the draft? What Jeff Borzello is reporting here is concerning. Able would be an essential piece to any version of next year’s team that is successful.

Is this a case of him saying what he needs to say when asked that question? What benefit would there be to saying he’s definitely going back to school while still at the combine with 4 days to go? It seems like most experts have him somewhere between mid second round to undrafted no?

Honestly, this back and forth about every single player is sapping my patience. Who cares? We'll figure it out one way or the other.

I’d be more concerned if he looked terrible against higher level competition. It kinda feels like he still wants to talk to nba teams and doesn’t rule out staying in if a team commits to picking him where he wants to go. The good news is he mentioned UNC still. In the instagram post he talked about “running it back” with his old teammate. I think his camp is doing a good job keeping his nba option open but will ultimately be a day 2 guy and he’ll end up coming back to be a focal point of the UNC game plan. If it works out, he goes top 20 or maybe top 15 next year and it’s a win win.

lol UNC losing Harrison Ingram as a 2nd rounder in this NIL era, then Drake Powell as a late first rounder, then Veesar as a late first with 5 mil NIL is crazy. This would be icing on the cake. Only UNC lol. Duke has to be laughing bc they get their mid firsts back no biggie we have a damn problem or maybe it's Duke NBA execs in our guys ears with false hope .

Good answer… seems like the standard answer of not wanting NBA teams to think you’re wasting their time.

For my mental health, I’m going to treat this as a standard PR response for now. I’ll melt down if that turns out to be wrong.

There is a way to get him to withdraw from the draft.

The fact that IC hasn’t chimed in all day about this topic is a little concerning and means there could be some smoke here. Guessing they just simply don’t know since it’s all so new. I wonder if the staff already has a replacement in mind IF he decided to stay in the draft.

I could understand Henri's goal to stay regardless being that he would be a senior this year, and doesn't want to risk an injury, and he will most likely draft late first round. However, with Able, he will be a sophmore, and has a lot more to grow to get to being a guaranteed first round pick or top 15. He was an ok player off the bench last year at State, with definite upside potential this year with UNC as a starter. All that being said, I can't see him getting drafted by any team in the first round this year.

I don’t think a year at NC State putting up the numbers he did will be enough to get him into the first round without him blowing people away at the combine. He’s more than holding his own but the body of work from a whole year in college will bring him back, I think. He’s doesn’t have the elite measurable to be drafted highly on potential alone, but could blow up after next year. That’s my copium.

It's the right answer. You don't waste their time and the teams who might want to schedule you for an interview or workout to simply say "I'm going back for sure". If you want the RIGHT feedback and ALL the feedback this opportunity gives you, you commit to the process.
End of the day, he's coming back. His tweets to Kevin Thomas about running it back suggest he's returning as are his comments about being excited to get to work in Chapel Hill.
Yes it takes just ONE team to come with a promise, but if a team have him one, he'd shut it down. Players immediately canceling interviews and workouts is the clear sign. But..... when he DOES come to Chapel Hill, he's gonna be flying high on confidence. This is gonna give him the mentality he can bust people's ass in college next year that's for sure.

What is he supposed to say? If he says he's definitely coming to UNC (what everyone wants to hear) that's effectively pulling out of the draft, isn't it?

I mean it’s kinda hype he’s performing so well at the combine. The wolfies were trying to say how he sucks and they were fine losing him. He’s gonna come play a year from us and earn lotto status, everyone relax lol
