Travis Roland named Wheeler (Ga.) head football coach

It didn’t take long for Travis Roland to find himself back in the head coaching fold of Georgia high school football.

According to a social media post shared by Wheeler High School (Ga.) athletics, Roland has been named the next head football coach of the Wildcats. Roland shared a post on social media regarding his appointment as the new lead man for the Wildcats, which finished 3-7 last season.

Roland spent two seasons at the helm of the Camden County Wildcats (Ga.) before they parted ways last month. The state championship head coach finished with a 13-8 record over the course of two seasons leading Camden County.

In three seasons at Mainland (Fla.), Roland compiled an overall record of 30-10, leading the Buccaneers to Florida’s Class 3S state championship over St. Augustine in 2023. 

Now Roland will be tasked in taking over a Wheeler squad that’s only won five games over the last two seasons. The last time Wheeler finished above the .500 mark was in 2023 when the team owned a 7-4 record.

Wheeler ended the 2025 season as the state’s No. 114th ranked team, according to the final Georgia 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings.
