Tampa Bay Buccaneers gives shoutout to area girls flag football teams
From one champion to another, the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers are giving recognition to its local high schools when it comes to girls flag football. On a national level, the Tampa Bay region just happens to have a few of them.
On Wednesday, the 2-time Super Bowl champion Buccaneers gave a shoutout to four Hillsborough County high schools that were ranked nationally by USA Today Sports in their inaugural Super 25 rankings. The four area schools mentioned were the Alonso Ravens, Robinson Knights, Lennard Longhorns and Steinbrenner Warriors.
‘Flag football runs through Tampa Bay
Congratulations to @AlonsoRavensFB for earning the top spot, while Robinson (3), Lennard (7) and Steinbrenner (19) also earned national recognition!’
Alonso finished as the nation’s No. 1 team after they defeated Wellington for the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) Class 4A state championship. Just a couple spots behind the Ravens are the third-ranked Knights, whom ended the 2025 campaign by claiming the Class 2A title in a rout of Choctawhatchee.
Also making the rankings nationally from the Tampa Bay region was Lennard at No. 7 and Steinbrenner (No. 19), both teams played in Class 4A. The Longhorns defeated Alonso during the regular season before being upended in the postseason.

The Buccaneers have long been the pioneers of pushing the girls flag football initiative when it comes to NFL franchises. Tampa Bay has taken the lead in this department, hosting the last two FHSAA state finals and also serving as the host to various other high school girls flag events.
When it comes to girls flag, there may not be an area more entrenched in the sport than Tampa Bay. Between Alonso and Robinson alone, the two schools have combined for 13 state championships.
With the Ravens finishing as the country’s top squad and returning a host of key starters, including quarterback Gabby Werr, who threw for 4,789 yards and 71 touchdowns last season, Alonso could see themselves right back at the top to start the national rankings come 2025-2026.
