St. Paul (Calif.) head football coach Mike Moschetti resigns after three seasons
St. Paul (Calif.) football will have a new head coach next season. Mike Moschetti has resigned after leading the Swordsmen for the last three years.
After an 0-6 start this season, St. Paul won four of its final six games, but it was another disappointing year in Santa Fe Springs. Across his three seasons in charge, Moschetti’s teams went 15-19.
“St. Paul deserves better…we didn’t win,” Moschetti said in a press release on Friday.
It was often a struggle on the defensive side of the ball for the Swordsmen. They allowed an average of 35.4 points per game this fall, a number they managed to reach on offense just four times. St. Paul did play a tough schedule early on, as its losing streak came at the hands of Mission Viejo, Damien, Los Alamitos, Servite and others.
“During his tenure, Coach Moschetti led the Swordsmen football program with integrity, passion, and an unwavering commitment to our student-athletes,” the school wrote. “A coach with CIF championships and a state title to his name, Coach Moschetti brought experience, discipline, and a competitive spirit that positively impacted our players both on and off the field.”
The Swordsmen ranked as the No. 145 team in California this fall, according to the Rivals Composite Rankings. Moschetti was previously the head coach at La Mirada. He replaced Rick Zepeda, who was let go in 2023 after spending a decade at the helm of St. Paul.

Moschetti had two separate stints at La Mirada. From 2008-15, the Matadores went 68-31 and claimed a state title in 2015. He returned a few years later in 2019 and went 20-18 across the next four seasons. He then resigned to take over the reins at St. Paul.
The Swordsmen will now search for a new head coach for next fall. They last put together consecutive winning seasons in 2018 and 2019.
