Rockmart (Ga.) set to hire 4-time state champion HFC Rich Fendley

Rockmart High School (Ga.) is set to make a blockbuster head coaching hire for their football program come early next week.

According to multiple reports, the Yellowjackets pending board of directors vote approval, are preapring to officially hire Bowdon (Ga.) head football coach Rich Fendley, a 4-time state champion. Fendley is coming of leading the Red Devils to the GHSA’s Class A, Division II state championship last season.

For four straight seasons, Fendley has led Bowdon to the promise land of winning a state title, guiding the Red Devils championship game and win from 2022-25. Fendley’s record over that span has been equally as impressive, putting together a 53-7 record, winning no less than 13 games the last four campaigns.

Bowdon, under Fendley’s watch, joined exclusive company when it came to Georgia high school football programs that have won four or more state titles in a row. In state history, only 13 programs have ever won four or more consecutive championships. Fendley was the architect of one of those elite teams and now will head to Rockmart with obviously high expectations right out of the gates.

Rockmart is coming off another region championship season under Biff Parson, who guided the Yellowjackets to the third round of the GHSA Class 2A playoffs and losing to Burke County, 41-40. Hart County (Ga.) hired Parsons away from Rockmart to be their next head football coach just last week.

Rockmart ended the 2025 season with a 11-2 record and as the state’s No. 89th ranked team, according to the final Georgia 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings.
