Robby Pruitt named Union County (Fla.) head football coach

Robby Pruitt won’t be heading back to South Georgia after all and will be staying in the Northern Florida region.

On Wednesday afternoon, Union County High School (Fla.) announced on Facebook the return of Pruitt as the program’s next head football coach. Pruitt was the head coach at Union County from 1993-99.

It was just yesterday that Williston (Fla.) announced that Pruitt would be leaving the program after four seasons leading the Red Devils. The following is an excerpt from the announcement made by Union County on the return of Pruitt to Union County.

‘Union County is proud to announce the return of Coach Robby Pruitt as the new Head Football Coach of the Union County Tigers.

Coach Pruitt comes home to Union County after a distinguished career that spans more than four decades and ranks among the most accomplished in high school football history. During his previous tenure leading the Tigers from 1993–1999, Coach Pruitt guided Union County to an extraordinary 79–10 record, highlighted by three consecutive state championships in 1994, 1995, and 1996, as well as an impressive 52-game winning streak that cemented the program’s place in Florida football history.

Prior to his time in Union County, Coach Pruitt spent nine successful seasons at University Christian, where he earned 88 victories and captured four state championships. Following his initial tenure with the Tigers, he continued his coaching career in Georgia for 22 seasons, leading programs at Fitzgerald, Warner Robins, and Coffee County, where his teams amassed a combined 209 wins. Most recently, Coach Pruitt returned to Florida and spent four seasons at Williston, adding 38 more victories to his remarkable résumé.‘

Pruitt this past 2025 season became the first high school football head coach ever to win 200 games in two separate states as he also logged over 200 victories in Georgia at Coffee and Warner Robins.

Pruitt, who has won 415 games in his career, is one of 49 football coaches to have ever won 400 or more games in prep gridiron history. In his legendary coaching career, Pruitt has had coaching stops at Williston, University Christian (Fla.), Union County (Fla.), Fitzgerald (Ga.), Warner Robins (Ga.) and Coffee (Ga.), respectively.

The legendary Florida high school football coach will take over a Tigers team that just went 2-8 in 2025 and were announced to have joined the Sunshine State Athletic Association (SSAA) on Wednesday.
