Oregon high school football: Phil Rombach takes over as Jesuit head coach
Multiple sources confirmed that Phil Rombach will take over from legendary Oregon high school football head coach Ken Potter, who retired after 39 seasons at Jesuit. That lengthy run made Potter the state’s winningest coach with 369 victories. Therefore, Rombach, the school’s sixth head football coach, will face a significant challenge as he takes over from his former mentor.
Rombach played for Potter and was a part of the Jesuit team that won the 2000 state championship. After high school, Rombach played at Linfield University, where he won the 2004 NCAA Division III championship. He also coached in various capacities at Linfield for 16 years before transferring to St. Michael’s Academy in Austin, Texas.
Phil Rombach led the Warriors to a 16-16 record in three seasons. Last year, St. Michael’s Academy finished with a 5-6 record and competed in the first round of the Texas Alliance of Accredited Private Schools District 2 playoffs. Sadly, the Warriors suffered a disappointing 52-9 loss to Legacy Christian Academy.
