Oaks Christian (Calif.) names new head football coach

Oaks Christian, one of California’s most notable high school football programs, has decided on who will be their next head coach.

According to a press release by the school on Friday, the Lions have tabbed JSerra Catholic offensive coordinator Rudy Carlton as their next head football coach. Carlton had also previously served as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at the University of West Florida from 2021-2023. 

“The Oaks Christian School athletic administration is excited to announce the following appointment of its new varsity head football coach, as well as the creation of a new position and hiring of a general manager/head of football operations,” the official press release read.

“Rudy Carlton has been named the new varsity head football coach, effective Feb. 2. Carlton comes to OC from JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano as the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the past three seasons.”

Carlton takes over for Charlie Collins, who was dismissed after serving at the helm for eight years and leading the Lions to a 59-34 record across his eight years, but that included a 6-7 finish this past 2025 campaign.

Oaks Christian has produced a number of NFL players, and have continued to do so recently with the likes of Kayvon Thibodeaux, Michael Pittman Jr. and Zach Charbonnet. 

The Lions ended this past season finishing ranked No. 78 in the final 2025 California High School Football Massey Rankings.
