Louisiana high school running back sets two state rushing records ahead of title game

Ahead of this weekend’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) football state championships, a running back has already set two state single-season rushing records and still has one more game to go.

Ascension Catholic senior running back Trevin Simon has set the Louisiana state records for rushing yards and touchdowns in a single season ahead of Friday’s LHSAA Division IV Select championship game against Riverside Academy. The is slated to be played 8 p.m. at the Caesars Superdome.

Simon this season has rushed for a state-record 3,765 rushing yards and has added 57 touchdowns. Both of the records set by Simon have blown by the previous records as the tailback looks to add to his totals on Friday night in the Big Easy.

Simon broke the records of Leesville’s Xavier Ford, who back in 2024 rushed for 3,467 yards and scored 52 touchdowns.

Now the tailback will be going up against a Riverside Academy defensive unit that has only yielded 134 points (10.3 points per game) through 13 games. Simon is 235 yards away from reaching the 4,000-yard plateau, a mark that would out and away be Louisiana’s most ever in a single season.

According to the record books of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and MaxPreps, only seven other high school football running backs have ever rushed for more than 4,000 yards in a single season. Simon will have his chance to do so under the bright lights of the Superdome.
