Louisiana high school football team wins state title with unbelievable ending
From heartbreak to hero was scene for St. Charles Catholic senior place kicker Tyler Milioto on Friday night in a Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Division II Select state championship game against Archbishop Shaw.
The game had 35 seconds remaining as the Comets trailed the Eagles, 21-20, Milioto lined up up for what would’ve been the game-tying extra point but the kick would sail wide left.
In video that has gone viral, Archbishop Shaw players can been seen celebrating prematurely and it continued after the missed kick.
Archbishop Shaw went and lined up in victory formation, took a knee, but Eagles’ offensive lineman took his helmet off which drew a penalty and stopped the clock for St. Charles. Eventually Archbishop Shaw would be forced to punt with 20 seconds still remaining in the game and this is where the game got haywire.
The Eagles’ punt would get partially blocked, setting the Comets up with great field position still trailing by a point.

It would become redemption time for Milioto, who would get another chance to redeem himself from the missed extra point from 25 seconds earlier. With 10 seconds left in the game, Milioto would line up for a 44-yard field goal attempt and this time would knock down the kick to give St. Charles Catholic the improbable 23-21 lead and eventually, the win.
The Comets had captured victory from literally the jaws of defeat, doing it on the right leg of a kicker that needed just one more opportunity to prove himself and he did.
