Friday has brought multiple new openings for head football coaching jobs in California. San Dimas is one of the latest.

Mark Holman has led the Saints for the last 11 seasons. He officially resigned on Friday after a 7-6 campaign this fall. Fred J. Robledo of the San Gabriel Valley Tribune was the first to report the news.

Holman wrote a letter explaining his decision, citing personal and family reasons:

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my decision to step down as Head Football Coach at San Dimas High School. Due to personal and family reasons, I have decided it is in the best interest of both myself and the program to step away at this time. This was not an easy decision, as I care deeply for my players and the coaching staff. To be the head coach over the past 11 years at San Dimas High School as well as a fixture within the program for over 2 decades, has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

My time as Head Football Coach at San Dimas High School has been about much more than wins and losses; it has been about building character, fostering a family atmosphere, and watching young men grow into leaders. I want to thank the players, past and present, for their hard work and the parents and administrators for their unwavering support. While I am looking forward to whatever the future may hold, a piece of my heart will always remain on the San Dimas sidelines. Thank you for the memories of a lifetime. Go Saints!”

San Dimas was consistently competitive under Holman. It won 10 games in his first season in charge back in 2015. The Saints never had a losing record under the longtime coach, as he compiled an 87-40 record and won their league four times. He has been teaching at the school since 2005.

This fall, the Saints had a back-and-forth campaign. A forfeit helped grant them a 3-0 start to the year. They then lost four of the next five, but rebounded and made a run to the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 9 state tournament. They lost 28-12 to eventual champs Valley Christian.

San Dimas finished as the No. 319 team in the Golden State, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. It averaged just over 21 points per game this fall.

Holman took the reins from Bill Zernickow, who also had plenty of success during a lengthy tenure. San Dimas hasn’t had much turnover in its program, but it is now in need of a new leader for the 2026 campaign and beyond.
