Gus Smith named Blount (AL) head football coach
Gus Smith has returned to the head coaching ranks in the state of Alabama and will be landing at Blount, according to an AL.com report.
The former Gordo (AL) head football coach has been tabbed as the next lead man of the Leopards. Smith stepped away from Gordo after the 2024 season and now returns to coach a Blount squad that missed the 2025 Alabama high school football postseason.
“It’s certainly one of those schools where you are extremely honored to be the head coach,” Smith said via the AL.com report. “If you live in Mobile and Blount High School is not doing well, it affects everyone. It’s a perennial power that people statewide keep an eye on, and our goal is to get back to where we need to be.”
From 2022-24, Smith compiled a overall record 31-6 across his three seasons at the helm of Gordo, leading the Green Wave to multiple region titles in his first two campaigns. Before landing at Gordo, Smith was also on the coaching staffs of Daphne, Mobile Christian and Jackson, respectively.
