ATLANTA, Ga.- For the fifth time in school history, the Sandy Creek Patriots will be hoisting a high school football state championship.

The Patriots got another big performance from West Virginia signee Amari Latimer as the running back scored two touchdowns and lifted Sandy Creek to a 27-7 victory over Jefferson on Wednesday night for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class 3A state championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Latimer’s first big play of the night would come via a 15-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, giving the Patriots a 7-0 lead. A blocked punt late in the second quarter would lead to a short Caleb Hill touchdown run to push Sandy Creek’s advantage to 14-0.

Jefferson would get on the scoreboard just before halftime as Minnesota commit Chance Payne returned a punt 82 yards to pay dirt, putting the Dragons down just 14-7 going into the break.

Hill scored his second touchdown of the night on a short run, to increase the Dragons’ advantage to 21-7.

Latimer’s second touchdown of the evening put the game out of reach for the Dragons as the future Mountaineer punched it in from 25 yards out midway through the fourth quarter to put Sandy Creek ahead 27-7. Latimer finished the night carrying the rock 22 times for 98 yards while Hill completed 14 of 19 passes for 167 yards.

Sandy Creek’s defense stifled the Jefferson offense, holding the Dragons to 203 total yards on the night.
