Georgia High School Football: Carver caps undefeated season with 2A title
ATLANTA, Ga.- Finishing undefeated with the perfect season was on the minds of the Carver Tigers in Tuesday night’s Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class 2A state championship game.
Boasting a 14-0 record heading into the night, the Tigers needed to stave off an upset-minded Hapeville Charter squad. Carver used a strong second half performance as they came away with the 24-7 victory over Hapeville Charter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
With the victory, Carver clinches winning back-to-back state championships.
“It’s amazing,” Carver first-year head coach Jarvis Jones said after the game. “Look at all these guys. They bought into everything [we’re] trying to do. It’s been a long season. I love these guys and I’m gone miss these guys.”
Carver (15-0) led 3-0 in the early going, but it would be freshman quarterback Sebastian Heard connecting on a 38-yard strike to senior wide receiver Keimaurii Miles for the 10-0 lead in the second quarter.
Hapeville Charter (10-5) would stay within striking distance in the opening half of play as junior quarterback Jeylan Pope hit wide receiver Cedric Walker on a 6-yard scoring pass to go into intermission only trailing 10-7.

The Cougars would break the game open at the midway point of the fourth quarter, with running back Jakobe Caslin scoring on a 1-yard run. Senior defensive back Jamarcus Davis picked off a pass in the final minutes, returning it for a touchdown, to complete the scoring on the night.
Impressing on the night was freshman running back Zach Watts, who rushed for 64 yards on just 10 carries for the Cougars.
Carver’s defense played as they had all season long, as one of the better units in the state, holding Hapeville Charter to just 96 total yards of offense.
