The high school football season in Georgia, as teams were crowned state champions in downtown Atlanta for the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) down at Mercedes-Benz Stadium over the past week.

Buford finishes as the state’s No. 1 team as they defeated Carrollton in Tuesday night’s Class 6A state championship showdown, which many people viewed as a de factor national title game. The new No. 2 is Thomas County Central, which cruised past Gainesville, 62-21, for the 5A crown. Who else makes it into the final set of Georgia high school football rankings?

The Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

Here is the last Georgia high school football Top 25 rankings, according to Massey as of Dec. 18.

1. Buford Wolves (15-0)

Finishing as the top team in the state of the Georgia is the Buford Wolves as they defeated Carrollton Trojans Tuesday night for Georgia’s Class 6A state championship.

The Wolves’ defense has been one of the best in the country, only yielded 10.5 points per game (158 points). Buford will have a case by many rankings around the country to being the No. 1 team in the land. Question is will the Wolves finish the top team based on the Massey Ratings and Rivals National High School Football rankings? that remains to be seen.

2. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (15-0)

Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (15-0) have been playing as good as anyone as they cruised to a 62-21 victory over Gainesville last night for a Class 5A state championship. It caps what has been arguably one of the best seasons in country.

Wake Forest signee Christian Lawrence has been a terror for opposing defenses throughout the 2025 season, as Lawrence finished rushing for 2,198 yards (9.6 yards per carry) on 229 carries and scored 28 touchdowns. Lawrence has also added 401 receiving yards on 23 receptions and seven scores while adding 275 kick return yards.

3. Carrollton Trojans (14-1)

Carrollton was sitting at the top of the rankings heading into Tuesday night’s Class 6A state championship game was the Carrollton Trojans. The Trojans fell in the 6A championship game to Buford, 28-21, ending Carrollton’s dreams of a undefeated 15-0 season.

Trojans’ head coach Joey King had guided the team through a difficult schedule that has included wins over Parker (Ala.), Gainesville and Grayson.

The Trojans drop down a couple spots in our final rankings, though Carrollton could make a legit argument to being the state’s best team.

4. Creekside Seminoles (15-0)

When it comes to top teams out of the Peach State, the Creekside Indians might be the most red-hot team right now after winning the Class 4A state championship. Creekside had a challenge at the end, but were able to upend Benedictine Military School, 42-39.

The Seminoles opened up the season with an impressive 70-28 throttling of DeSoto and had been on a roll ever since. Creekside had out-scored opponents 845-125 this season behind an offense that’s averaging 56.3 points per game.

Senior quarterback Cayden Benson ended his 2025 season with totaling over 4,000 all-purpose yards and around 50 total touchdowns.

5. Grayson Rams (12-1)

The Grayson Rams (12-1) had reached the third round of the Georgia Class 6A playoffs, but fell to No. 1 Carrollton in a 34-14 decision.

The Rams made a strong run through the season despite losing North Carolina signee Travis Burgess for most of the season due to injury. Grayson had looked like they would be able to defend their title, nonetheless, as the offense had continued to make strides throughout the season.

Texas five-star signee Tyler Atkinson played very well for the Rams in the front seven, racking up 91 tackles, 27 for a loss and 10 sacks. Atkinson ended up being named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
