Charles Woodson gives shout out to Lake Nona (Fla.) football for first-ever playoff win
Some may not know, but NFL Hall of Fame defensive back Charles Woodson coaches high school football down at Lake Nona High School (Fla.) where his son, Charles Woodson Jr., is a junior three-star safety.
The elder Woodson has done a lot for the game of football throughout his illustrious career and Friday night, himself and the Lions pulled off something the program has never done before: Win a high school football playoff game.
Woodson, who coaches the Lions’ defensive backs, gave Lake Nona a shout out via Instagram, congratulating the program on its first-ever playoff win when they defeated St. Cloud, 29-0, in a FHSAA Class 7A, Region 3 quarterfinal on Friday night. The Lions move onto the region semifinals to take on top seed Vero Beach next week.
“Y’all know like how I like to be first,” Woodson leads off with in the video. “First to win the Heisman on defense. First in the NFL player with 65 plus interceptions, 20 sacks, 33 forced fumbles. Matter of fact, the only one. Tonight there was another first. Lake Nona High School, where I’m coaching, got our first ever playoff win in the history of the school. Man, that feels good. I know its just one win and we’ve got a tougher matchup next week. We’ve got the first one. We’re building something. Congratulations Lake Nona High School football. We did that. It’s time to get back to work. There’s more to be done, Lake Nona Lions, let’s go. Build your legend.”
