Armwood, Edgewater to face off in Florida football kickoff classic

A couple of Florida’s top high school football programs from the 2025 season will be clashing in a preseason kickoff classic to start the 2026 campaign.

Orlando Edgewater (Fla.) announced over the past weekend that they will be taking on Armwood (Fla.) in a 2026 kickoff classic on Aug. 14th, 7 p.m. Eastern Time. The Hawks and Eagles finished as the No. 10 and 17 ranked teams, according to the final 2025 Florida High School Football Massey Rankings.

When looking at the two programs, Armwood and Edgewater were both on the precipice of competing in a state championship in their respective classifications. The Hawks went 14-1 last season and finished just seconds away from playing for the Class 6A title, losing to eventual state champion West Boca Raton in the state semifinals.

The Eagles reached the Class 5A region final, falling to state finalist Lakeland, 27-14. Edgewater had themselves a terrific first season under the watch of Patrick Browning, who led the Eagles to a 13-1 record.

Armwood, which has won three state championships in program history, returns a couple of the top players in the Tampa Bay area in Class of 2027 three-stars Theo Wilson and defensive lineman Errol Demontagnac.
