Trae Taylor is making big news in the high school ranks. The four-star 2027 Nebraska commit will transfer from Carmel Catholic in Illinois. He’ll spend his senior season at Millard South in Nebraska.

Taylor explained to me for Rivals why he even considered this move in the first place.

“The original thought was to be there to focus on helping peer recruit. I didn’t want to miss any of the guys that we will need,” Taylor said.

“Next with me being an early enrollee I figured why wait when I’d be in Lincoln most of the weekends anyways and multiple NIL things have been brought to me.  But I couldn’t because of the schedule to get back to Lincoln. Lastly, on game days I can get way more time with coaches. I can dig into the playbook to have a better understanding before I even enroll.”

Taylor will now be the heir apparent to Jett Thomalla, the record-setting quarterback who is enrolled at Alabama already. One of the key reasons for picking Millard South for this move is that he’ll get to play in a high-powered offense that can continue helping him get ready for college.

“I want to go to a school where I can still be developed at the high school level.  Having a bunch of coaches that played college ball is huge to me,” Taylor said.

“Also they kinda play a national schedule at the beginning of the season. It’s also a place that knows how to handle a high profile QB.  My senior year where ever I go I want it to be fun and be one of the guys like at Carmel. This group of guys just had Jett there. So me being there won’t be a big deal to anyone in that community.”

There is so much departing talent from the Millard South program. Taylor and his new teammates will get to put their own stamp on the next chapter of Patriots football. The program is fresh off a state championship that was one of the best seasons in state history.
