A bit of a lightning rod since she entered the WNBA, Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese finds herself near the center of another story quickly going viral on social media. It involves her boyfriend, Wednell Carter Jr., and her potential ex, Jalen Duren.

Now, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has entered the fray. So how does it all tie together?

During the first round of the NBA Playoffs, Angel Reese reposted a video of Carter dunking on Duren to her Instagram Story. Duren is reportedly her ex-boyfriend, though the two never publicly confirmed the relationship. Carter is Reese’s current boyfriend.

That simple repost quickly took off on the Internet. It also caught the attention of the producer of Sophie Cunningham’s podcast, Show Me Something.

The producer played a clip of the Instagram Story on the podcast, looking to get a reaction out of Cunningham. And Cunningham reacted.

“Something had to have happened for her to keep, I don’t know, wanting to embarrass him in some way,” Cunningham said of Angel Reese.

Her co-host, West Wilson, chimed in that perhaps “nothing happened.” Cunningham wasn’t sold at all.

“But then move on!” Cunningham quipped. “Worry about the current boyfriend.”

As it played out in the NBA Playoffs, Carter eventually ended up going home. Duren and Detroit flipped the series after going down 3-1, winning three straight to advance. Carter and Orlando bowed out.

Meanwhile, during Game 7 of the series, Detroit fans, catching wind of the Angel Reese drama, chanted “Angel Reese” at Carter during the game. Quite the saga.

Angel Reese was a star at LSU, where she won a national title in 2023. She went on to become the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, taken by the Chicago Sky.

Last month, Reese was traded to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for first-round picks in the 2027 and 2028 WNBA Drafts. In two seasons in the WNBA, Reese has averaged 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
