Rutgers' Kiyomi McMiller's dad: "We're not looking to transfer"
Despite Rutgers’ star freshman Kiyomi McMiller being benched against No. 4 USC on Sunday night and a social media post indicating that it was head coach Coquese Washington’s decision, her dad, Mike, told On3 that she doesn’t intend to leave the program.
“Kiyomi’s goal was to be at Rutgers and not ever transfer,” McMiller told On3. “That is still the goal. The goal is to finish the job. At this moment, we’re not looking to transfer.”
McMiller has cemented herself as one of the top freshmen in the country, averaging 19.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game with the Scarlet Knights.
The 5-foot-9 point guard from Burlington (NJ) Life Center Academy was a 5-star recruit, ranked No. 27 in the nation. She chose Rutgers over programs including UCF, Florida State, James Madison, Ole Miss, Penn State and Temple.

McMiller has already made waves on a national landscape, signing the first high school NIL deal with Jordan Brand in February of 2023. Since arriving at Rutgers, she’s garnered plenty of attention for her flashy play style and had a highlight-reel basket earlier this season that went viral. According to Bart Torvik, McMiller ranks first in the Big Ten – and among all freshmen – in usage rate.
Rutgers is 8-7 this season and the Scarlet Knights’ next game is at Minnesota this Wednesday at 8 p.m.
