Virginia transfer guard Andrew Rohde commits to Wisconsin

Former Virginia guard Andrew Rohde has committed to Wisconsin, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He initially entered the portal on March 24.

Rohde spent two seasons with the Cavaliers, making 63 appearances and 53 starts. He averaged 9.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 31.0 minutes per game this season while shooting 43.2% from the field and 41.3% from beyond the arc.

Rohde had arguably his best performance of the season in Virginia’s loss to Duke on Feb. 17. In the loss, Rohde tallied a team-high 15 points, five rebounds and five assists on 5-10 shooting from the floor.

Rohde was far less productive during his first season with Virginia. He averaged just 4.3 points per game and shot 29.3% from the field. Before transferring to Virginia, Rohde spent one season at St. Thomas Minnesota.

While there, Rohde averaged a career-high 17.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game. For his efforts, he was named the Summit League Freshman of the Year and All-Summit League First-Team selection.

Rohde played high school basketball at Brookfield Central (WI), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He averaged 28.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.2 steals as a senior.

Andrew Rohde was the No. 92 overall player and No. 14 small forward available in the transfer portal, according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He will be a welcome addition for the Badgers after they lost several players in the opening days of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Perhaps most notably, Daniel Freitag entered the portal. The freshman guard didn’t see much action this season but was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and rated as the No. 4 combo guard in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Rohde will soften the blow of Wisconsin’s other losses and likely be an immediate contributor for the Badgers. Wisconsin had a standout season under head coach Greg Gard. The team posted a 27-10 overall record and a 13-7 mark in conference play.

The Badgers reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons but ultimately couldn’t advance to the Sweet Sixteen, falling 91-89 to BYU. With Rohde in the backcourt next season, Wisconsin will look to reach new heights.
