Manhattan transfer Jose Perez commits to West Virginia
Manhattan transfer Jose Perez tells On3 he’s committed to West Virginia.
“I chose West Virginia to play for a legendary, Hall-of-Fame coach in Bob Huggins,” Perez said to On3. “He constantly called me twice a day and made sure that he got his message across. That was that they just didn’t want me there, but that they needed me.”
The 6-foot-5 fifth-year senior entered the transfer portal on Tuesday after Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello was fired two weeks before the start of the season.
Perez was contacted by a slew of high major programs, including the likes of Oregon, Alabama, Memphis, Texas, Louisville, Clemson, Nebraska, and many more.

Morgantown, West Virginia will be Perez’ fourth and final stop. The 24-year-old began his college career at Gardner-Webb, before a single season at Marquette, and most recently at Manhattan.
The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year and Bronx native averaged 18.9 points, 4.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds last season.
