USC 4-star SG signee Liam Campbell requests NLI release from Trojans

Liam Campbell will not be headed to Los Angeles after all. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Owyhee High School (ID) has requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to USC and will reopen his recruitment. The news comes after former USC head coach Andy Enfield accepted the opening at SMU.

“Due to the announcement of Coach Enfield’s departure, I have decided to request a release from my NLI and re-open my recruitment,” Campbell said in a statement to On3. “Thank you to Coach Enfield, Capko, Mobley, Morris, Farmer, Karis, Swets and all the Trojan staff and family for welcoming me with open arms and believing in me.  

“I will continue to put in the work and play with passion for the game I love and see where it takes me.  I look forward to finding a good fit where I can develop as a player while keeping USC as an option.”

The four-star senior committed to the Trojans in September and signed his NLI during the early period in November. He ultimately chose USC over St. Mary’s, Santa Clara, Utah State, Washington State, Stanford, and others.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Liam Campbell is the No. 110 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 23 shooting guard prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
