Sean Miller calls out team for foul issue again following loss to Auburn
Texas‘ foul woes sunk it again Wednesday night in an 88-82 loss to Auburn on the road inside Neville Arena. In the Longhorn’s six-point loss, it recorded 26 fouls and allowed the Tigers to shoot a whopping 39 free throws. Auburn made 29 of its 39 free throws, including 22-28 in the second half, in the victory.
Sean Miller‘s team’s inability to *not* foul has made for a disastrous first season in Austin so far. Through 21 games, the Longhorns are just 12-9 with a 3-5 record in SEC play.
Following the loss, Miller once again called out his team for ‘fouling the shit’ out of Auburn.
“I think Auburn has an excellent basketball team,” Miller said. “I thought we saw it on full display in the second half of tonight’s game. We knew coming in that they were a real problem in terms of free throw attempts, getting to the foul line, and their ability to attack the rim and get second shots. They did it in a variety of ways, and that’s very impressive. We knew we had our hands full. We have no solution man-to-man guarding individually and as a team. We really just could not stop them in the second half.
“They were 22/28 from the free throw line in the 2nd half. That’s almost impossible to do in a college game. But I give them a lot of credit. They put our guys in a position to foul and we fouled the shit out of them.”

Sean Miller has been calling out Texas’ foul issue for weeks
Texas fouled No. 21 Georgia just 14 times in its 87-67 victory over the Bulldogs on Jan. 24, but fouled Kentucky 23 times in the game prior. Following the Longhorns’ 85-80 loss to the Wildcats on Jan. 21, Miller first accused his team of ‘fouling the shit out of you’.
“This is a Texas problem,” Miller told reporters after the game. “We have a virus called fouling. It has plagued us. It’s not the officials, it’s not Kentucky, we will foul the living shit out of you. You describe the foul, the team I’m coaching will commit it.”
The Longhorns rank third-to-last in the SEC in opponent’s free throw attempts per game (23.6), with opponents making 71.8% of their free throws. They have shown that they can pull off big victories when limiting their fouls, but the end of the tunnel looks dark this season if they can’t figure of their fouling problem in a hurry.
