Ryan Wingo injury update: Texas WR heads to locker room after injuring hand vs. Vanderbilt
Ryan Wingo is heading to the locker room after appearing to injure a finger on his right hand. The injury happened after the Texas WR caught a screen pass in the first quarter vs. Vanderbilt.
Wingo immediately left the game after making the catch, which went for a first down. The broadcast showed a quick video of his hand, and the injury appeared to be to his thumb. He later emerged from the locker room before halftime and remained on the bench for the rest of the first half.
The Longhorns will certainly miss his services while getting looked at in the locker room. Wingo was responsible for the opening touchdown of the game, which went for 75 yards on another screen pass. He left the game with two catches for 89 yards.
True freshman Daylan McCutcheon found some playing time in his absence, but found himself dealing with a wrist injury before halftime. He made a catch up the right sideline for 14 yards to set up Texas with first and goal.
Wingo is the team’s leading receiver. Coming into the game he’s hauled in 29 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns. The 75-yard touchdown pass on the pitch-and-catch is the longest play for Wingo this season.

Wingo is coming off a season-best performance against Mississippi State where he hauled in five receptions for 184 yards. Though, he failed to reach the end zone during the career-best receiving performance. He was well on his way to matching that effort on Saturday, but his apparent hand injury appears to have gotten in the way of that.
He’s already eclipsed his receiving totals from one year ago, which saw him finish with the same number of receptions (29) for 472 yards and two touchdowns. It’s a promising start for the young wideout, who has always been highly regarded coming out of the high school ranks.
