Oklahoma transfer receiver Jayden Gibson has committed to play for South Carolina in 2026, On3 has learned. Gibson played the past four seasons with the Sooners, but did not appear in any games over the past two years.

Gibson last played in 2023, where he caught 14 passes for 373 yards and five touchdowns. He also played nine games in 2022 but only caught one pass.

Gibson played high school football for West Orange (FL), where he was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class. He ranked as the No. 147 overall player and No. 25 receiver in the cycle according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.

Jayden Gibson is the first player to committ to South Carolina out of the 2026 transfer portal cycle. The Gamecocks are coming off of a 4-8 record this past season, their worst in five years under coach Shane Beamer.

That in mind, the incoming transfer portal class will be a big storyline heading into next season as they look to turn things around. South Carolina also returns quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and now he has a brand new target to throw to in Gibson.

More on the transfer portal in 2026

The 15-day transfer portal this winter will be the only window, opening Jan. 2 and closing on Jan. 16. The NCAA opted to eliminate the spring transfer portal window for football, meaning this will be the only opportunity for student athletes to enter their names.

The move to a one-time-only portal is supposed to allow schools to finish their season with their entire team before the transfer portal opens. As has been the previous standard, athletes on College Football Playoff teams still playing would have 5 days beginning the day after their team’s final game to enter the transfer portal.

This season’s CFP semifinals are set for Jan. 8 and 9. The CFP national championship game is scheduled for Jan. 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
