Dakorien Moore injury update: Oregon WR's status in doubt vs. Iowa

Oregon WR Dakorien Moore is confirmed to have suffered an injury at practice this week, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. However, his status for Saturday’s game vs. Iowa remains uncertain.

Thamel’s report comes amid conflicting reports on Moore’s status. At the same time, Thamel did not disclose the specificity or severity of the injury. Additional details, including if he’s able to suit up, will become more clear as kickoff nears.

Moore is the leading receiver for the Ducks this season with 28 receptions for 443 yards and three touchdowns. Losing him for such a pivotal matchup is a massive blow for Oregon, and the Ducks will have to turn toward Gary Bryant Jr. and Malik Benson for their receiving production on Saturday.

During Oregon’s most recent matchup — a 21-7 win over Wisconsin — Moore caught three passes for 45 yards to lead the Ducks’ receiving efforts. Before that, he hauled in two receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown against Rutgers.

While his final status on Saturday remains to be seen, it’s unclear if he’ll be playing at 100% if he does suit up. With Oregon’s sights set on the College Football Playoff, the Ducks could play it safe and keep Moore out for this matchup.

If he’s unable to go, the next two leading receivers on Oregons team are Gary Bryant Jr. and Malik Benson. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq has over 300 receiving yards and leads the team in receiving touchdowns (5) this season.

At the same time, Saturday’s matchup is an important one for the Ducks. Oregon doesn’t have a win over any teams ranked in the first College Football Playoff rankings, which were revealed this past Tuesday. The Hawkeyes are ranked 20th, so defeating Iowa will go a long way in strengthening Oregon’s CFP argument.

Kickoff between the Ducks and Hawkeyes is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS. If Moore is unable to go, Oregon will hope to have him back in time for next Friday’s matchup against Minnesota. The Ducks will round out its regular season against No. 19 USC and No. 23 Washington.
