Notre Dame sophomore guard Sir Mohammed plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
Roster movement is beginning in South Bend. Notre Dame sophomore guard Sir Mohammed plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal when the window officially opens on April 7. On3’s Joe Tipton confirmed the news.
The portal will remain open through April 21 under the NCAA’s new 15-day window. However, players are not required to commit to a new school within that timeframe.
Mohammed’s decision comes after a challenging 2025-26 season for both the player and the program. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game this season, flashing the upside that once made him a top-100 prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
A product of Myers Park (N.C.), Mohammed came to Notre Dame as the No. 83 overall player in the Rivals Industry Ranking, bringing length and versatility to Micah Shrewsberry’s roster. However, consistency, both in health and opportunity, proved difficult to find.
After enrolling in June 2024, Mohammed dealt with knee issues that sidelined him for nearly two months early in his freshman season, from Nov. 11 through Dec. 31. The injury disrupted his development at a critical time, limiting his ability to carve out a steady role during non-conference play and ultimately impacting his trajectory within the rotation.
That lack of continuity carried into his sophomore campaign. Mohammed’s minutes remained inconsistent as Notre Dame struggled through a disappointing season.
In the end, the Irish finished 13-18 overall and just 4-14 in ACC play, missing the conference tournament altogether. Injuries played a major role in derailing the season, most notably the loss of junior guard Markus Burton, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury in December.
From there, Notre Dame lost 10 of 11 games during a brutal stretch that effectively ended any postseason hopes. Head coach Micah Shrewsberry described the year as a “season of hell,” and with that comes inevitable change.

“We’ve got a bunch of guys that do believe in what we’re doing and want to still be here,” Shrewsberry said. “There’s gonna be a core group of guys that are ready to help us make the next step next year. … But change always happens, right?”
Alas, Mohammed now becomes one of the first expected departures as the program looks to reset heading into Year 4 under Shrewsberry.
Despite the setbacks, his skill set and recruiting pedigree will likely generate interest in the portal, especially for programs looking to develop the versatile sophomore with upside.
Meanwhile, as Notre Dame begins to evaluate its roster and retain key pieces like Burton, Jalen Haralson and others, Mohammed’s exit signals the start of what could be a busy offseason in South Bend. We’ll see who, or what, is next.
