Missouri safety Mose Phillips plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Missouri safety Mose Phillips plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The stint in Columbia was a short one for Phillips, only spending one campaign with the Tigers. He will now put himself back on the open market for the second consecutive offseason. Wherever Phillips lands, it will be school No. 3 in as many years.
Missouri brought Phillips into the program and turned him into an important piece of the puzzle. He played in 11 games, recording five tackles. 0.5 tackles for a loss, and even a forced fumble. One pass breakup came from the safety when dropping back in coverage.
The win at Auburn was the lone regular season game Phillips missed. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz did not get him out on the field during the bowl game against Virginia either. Phillips’ last appearance came in the finale vs. Arkansas, a game the Tigers won.
As for previous stops, Phillips began his career in Blacksburg with the Virginia Tech Hokies. Two seasons were spent there under Brent Pry before entering the portal. Of the 25 games played for VT, 13 of them were starts. No redshirt was ever taken, with Missouri listing him as a junior on the official 2025 roster.
Phillips should have one season of eligibility remaining at his next stop. Potentially a nice addition to the back-end of a team’s secondary.

Phillips played high school football at Nashville (TN) Cane Ridge, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,295 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Just like everybody in college football, Missouri is working through some roster attrition at the moment. While plenty of names, such as Phillips, are filtering their way out, Drinkwitz is working to add multiple players to the roster. Things are going to look quite different for the Tigers in 2026.
We will get our first official look in early September when Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to town. One week later sees Missouri travel to Lawrence for the second consecutive season for the Border War. Drinkwitz will be looking to make it back-to-back victories over Kansas.
